Life Experiences:
Doug is originally from Niagara Falls and Johanne from Montréal. After many diverse adventures and experiences we found each other in 2011 and have continued to live out our dreams in beautiful British Columbia.
We have both explored the globe widely with our preferred method of travel being with backpacks and on the local buses. All inclusive has never been our style.
We prefer to travel light and we arrive with no emotional baggage.
Being healthy is very important to us and we have no bad habits
(Johanne saviors an occasional glass of wine with dinner).
We have spent many long and wonderful hours sailing our 36 ft. sailboat on B.C. coast. Being on the water requires a strong ability to adapt and work through situations as they arise.
Work History
Johanne has devoted her career to child care working in and managing Childcare Centers in California and Vancouver. Her calm and cheerful personality has served her very well in this field. She has a Bachelor of Science degree and has many professional achievements.
Doug has spent the bulk of his working life in real estate where be built a very successful career in sales and the management of real estate offices. He has also built sail boats, houses and was the Lead Surveyor on the Vancouver rapid transit system.
Skill Sets
Johanne, being totally bilingual is well on her way to being conversant in Spanish and Doug is determined to achieve fluency too. We study every day building our vocabulary and are looking forward to being immersed in the language and a latin culture.
Johanne is very good with animals and has lovingly cared for many pets over the years.
Doug’s experience has allowed him to nurture his skills of sales, negotiation, communications and marketing. He is also comfortable with framing, concrete work, landscaping, gardening, simple finishing and basic electrical/ mechanical work.
He is a Canadian Yachting Association sailing instructor, a former Board Member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Langley and a youth mentor. Doug is a very dedicated Rotarian and has had the pleasure of being President of two very successful Rotary clubs.
Our Dreams
We are very excited about the next phase of our lives and are eager to find a situation where we can be active and apply the skills that we share. Community is very important to us and we have a strong desire to contribute in a positive manner to the greater good.
